All eyes on me kama 2Pac…
Although I didn't mean to attract attention, I did. This specific guard, Osiato, alikua amenimark. He always thought I was ignorant. My student card started it all. I had forgotten to show him my card. “Hio ujinga yako usilete hapa!” We started on the wrong footing. We had crossed paths. The second encounter was on my trousers. “Unadhani nafanya kazi ya ujinga hapa!” That word “Ujinga” stuck on his tongue like Rose Muhando sticking to gospel music.

I know that at one point or the other, you have been assaulted by a security guard. Assault is such a strong word. Let’s tone it down.
I could smell Osiato’s insecurity. He thought we disrespected his job. Small it was. No cap. But he had to act as the big guy. His respect was to be earned. So he had to be aggressive, rude and brutal. I heard earlier that no matter how bad the guards talk to you, you weren't supposed to respond rudely. Because they would never give you peace. Both True and Traumatic.
Monday mornings were bad. Especially for the security guards. They always had mood swings. Even the men. Those ones had the worst mood swings.

My friend, Jux, was on a call while the guard searched his bag. “Fungua zip ingine kijana!” He shouted. Jux raised his brows and uttered, “Whaaat!” The guard threatened him of how he could take him at the back of the line. At least he used cooperation in his shouty talk. He was mad. Yapping how the students lack respect. Seeing them as diminished beings. Jux was outspoken. He wasn’t like us who would get suppressed. He couldn’t let Osiato get away with this. He dropped the call. Giving space for the next student to be searched. He told the guard, “Talking rudely to students won’t make them increase your salary.”
“What did you say!” His tone and his facial expressions showed that he was enraged. He slapped him on the face. Demonstrating authority. You already know what followed.
A suspension for a whole semester. I’m so sure he couldn’t recover from that.
But really? I bet security guards should have a mood tester machine before getting to work. Honestly. Cause yooh! They can even make you fail an exam. True? False?

We respect their work but sometimes they just become rude for no reason, I had a few bad incidents with a few of them but mostly good moments with most of them. Sometimes they think wanadharauliwa.
